Public and private sector groups in Britain are continuing to risk data security breaches, despite a number of high profile leaks in recent months.
A survey of 120 IT managers and senior IT staff by Check Point suggested that over half of the organizations polled are risking information losses.
The study found that 38 per cent of respondents stated that their employers did not deploy data encryption solutions, 13 per cent were unsure and 49 per cent said that the technology was in use.
According to Check Point, the number of UK organizations deploying data encryption technology has risen by one per cent since November 2007, in spite of a series of widely publicised information losses.
Nick Lowe, Check Point regional director for Northern Europe, commented: "Evidently the lessons of the last year and a half - that a data loss or breach can happen to any organization, whether private or public - have not been learned."
A recent report from web security firm ScanSafe warned that the threat of data theft has increased as a result of the credit crunch, with the number of data-theft Trojans rising last year by 1,559 per cent.
